The Team You’ll Work With:
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives ensures that City government solves problems through holistic, accountable, and transparent means. With a focus on many of the administration’s top priorities – from creating opportunities for young people to strengthening the city’s civic infrastructure – the office works in partnership with stakeholders inside and outside of city government to develop, scale, coordinate, and deliver policies, plans and operations in an equitable and sustainable way.
The Deputy Mayor also oversees the following agencies and offices: the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Office of Food Policy, the Office of Non-Profit Services, the Office of Childcare and Early Childhood Education, the Center for Innovation through Data Intelligence, the Office of Youth Employment, the Children’s Cabinet, and the Commission on Gender Equity.
The Problems You’ll Solve
Reporting directly to the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives, the Chief of Staff is a key advisor and instrumental part of the senior leadership team. In addition to managing staff, the Chief of Staff helps to define the strategic vision for the Office and provides a leading voice on the policy and programmatic direction of the office. The Chief of Staff also places a critical support role in the office, ensuring that day to day operations is coordinated and running smoothly.
- Serve as the Mayor's Office liaison to reporting agencies, including assisting with the implementation of Administration policies.
- Direct the Deputy Mayor’s staff, holding regular staff meetings, and handling all hiring and personnel matters for the Office.
- Assist the Deputy Mayor with oversight of structural or organizational issues facing agencies within his/her portfolio, as well as advising on key hiring or appointments within those agencies.
- Act as a project manager on additional mayoral initiatives within the Deputy Mayor's portfolio.
- Coordinate internal communications to ensure the DM is briefed and prepared for all meetings & events, while also working with staff to confirm objectives.
- Strategize and coordinate with senior leadership on policy issues, programs, and communication plans.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative assessments of policy proposals and strategic planning and make recommendations to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and other senior officials within the Mayor’s Office.
- In coordination with appropriate City agencies, private and other governmental entities, will oversee policy projects during the planning and approval phase to ensure appropriate goals and timelines are met.
- Serve as a liaison with communities, community advocates, elected officials, and civic organizations to communicate on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and the Office of the Deputy Mayor.
- Communications responsibilities will also include identifying, organizing, and coordinating press announcements, press releases, events, and media strategies, and speaking requests.
- Coordinate with all agencies, boards, commissions, organizations, and institutions relevant to the work of the office - coordinate communications and outreach strategies and ensure positive and efficient relationships between all stakeholders.
About You
- A Master’s degree preferred
- You have 8+ years leadership and management experience.
- You have a passion for understanding business goals, finding creative solutions, and improving office processes.
- You have experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- You are a great communicator (both written and verbally)
- You have an ability to complete competing priorities efficiently.
- You can interface effectively with professionals at all levels of the organization.
- You can work a flexible work schedule.
- And you must maintain confidentiality and use outstanding judgment on a daily basis
Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is $200,000 - $211,150.
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
