Seeking an experienced Executive Director for Eleanor’s Legacy, a statewide, highly visible, political women’s organization in New York State.

Duties include fundraising and donor management, cultivating new partners and sources of support, personnel and financial management, and general administrative executive responsibilities to achieve strategic plans and financial requirements in pursuit of the mission of the organization: To recruit, train and support pro-choice Democratic women to run for state and local office throughout New York State. The ED manages staff, consultants, programming, and media inquiries with guidance by and according to policies set by the Board of Directors.


Specific Experience Requirements:

8- 10 years in political environment and/or public policy, personnel and financial management; fundraising experience necessary. Seeking an Executive Director with experience reporting to a Board of Directors to build the organization alongside several board committees. ED will also interact with high level governmental officials, agencies and major donors throughout the state. The ED position requires personnel and financial management experience. ED will be supervising staff members including the Political Director, communications consultants and fundraisers as well as overseeing complex events, strategic planning, communications, volunteer and media coordination. An understanding and knowledge of New York State political structure and system is essential. Familiarity and experience with all social media platforms and digital marketing and communications.

Strategic Planning:

  • Create opportunities to expand networks of partners and peer organizations at the state and local level.
  • Work with advisors and staff for branding and communications to develop cohesive content particularly for fundraising events, electoral projects, candidate endorsements and spotlights, and plan message calendar for social media and email marketing.

  • With Board of Directors, develop and oversee execution of strategy for organizational development, political impact, fiscal and fundraising, and communications.

Fundraising and Branding:

  • Plan complex fundraising events in partnership with consultants and staff including calendar of fundraising events, venues (if in-person), format (streaming or zoom) keynote guests, speaking program, and Zoom protocols.
  • Organize and complete call time to donors and prospects, primarily centered on building event host committees and major donations.
  • Represent the Eleanor’s Legacy organization in public speaking role as necessary at fundraising and other public events.
  • Cultivate, steward, and grow partnerships with corporate entities, labor unions, and major gifts donors.
  • Build strong relationships with and lead stewardship for existing major gift donors including onboarding of new donors, personalized mail, electronic, and in-person communications.
  • Design & implement tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for major donors, including regular meetings, communication, events, and other engagement activities throughout the year.
  • Meet annual goals over $700k+ while maintaining sustainable growth year over year.
  • Grow evergreen donor base to transition organization from event-driven fundraising.

Board and Staff Management:

  • Create a calendar of quarterly meetings with the full board.
  • Host monthly briefing calls with the Executive Committee to review and solicit guidance on top line projects and monitor developments in local and state political events.
  • Provide support to Committee Chairs to enable them to fulfill the mission of committees.
  • Cultivate director prospects and orient new directors to board responsibilities in partnership with Board Chair, with particular attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion in board member prospecting.
  • Regularly consult with the Board chair on ongoing and new activities. 

  • Provide support to Political Director and staff on electoral projects, informed by current cycle and long-term electoral goals.

Administrative Management Role:

  • Hold regular staff meetings to manage all aspects of the organization; oversee staff and consultants regarding all day-to-day operations.
  • Produce and provide all necessary reports to consultants and officers for completing regular NYSBOE compliance filings and any amendments to filings.
  • Process invoices and prepare expenses to be paid for review by Treasurer, via ACH/wire transfer.
  • Coordinate with the bookkeeper to ensure all income and expenses are timely and accurately recorded in QuickBooks.
  • Develop annual budgets with guidance from Treasurer.
  • Work with accountant to provide all reports for annual filings, and review and approve filings in partnership with Treasurer.
  • Submit biweekly payroll via Paychex.
  • Renew annual contracts including corporate insurance policy, workers comp and disability.
